My Zip Tap is not dispensing water, what should I do?

If your Zip Tap is not dispensing water, enquire whether the water supply to your building has been interrupted at all. Often, the issue could be due to localised water pressure. Next, try checking that the water supply to the Zip under counter unit is turned on. Sometimes, this could be isolated by a member of staff by mistake and would prevent the cold water supply reaching the tap. Also, check that the power is turned on, and see if there are any error messages shown on the display screen. If you do have an error message showing on your Zip Tap, it may be best to speak to one of our service team on 01905 337187.

Wellbeing Group are a Platinum Partner for Zip Tap systems. This means we’re a fully trained and approved contractor for the supply, installation and service of all official Zip Tap products.

Common reasons zip taps stop working in offices

In busy commercial environments, there are a few reasons a Zip Tap might not be working. Common reasons include:

  • Safety function switched on — if a red light appears, this means the safety function is on. Press the boiling and safety button at the same time if your Zip Tap is not dispensing hot water. This should resolve the issue.

  • System fault messages — check the HydroTap command centre if any lights are flashing on the tap. Review the display screen for any fault codes and follow the on-screen instructions. If the Zip Tap hot water is still not working, you will need to contact us for servicing.

  • Interrupted mains water supply — temporary supply interruptions or planned servicing can stop water flow to the system entirely. Contact your local water authority if the problem persists.

  • Low water pressure — especially common in multi-story commercial buildings where pressure isn’t always sufficient. First, confirm if other outlets are experiencing pressure loss. If it is just your Zip Tap, you may require servicing and maintenance from our approved contractors.

  • Power supply issues — the under counter unit may have been switched off at the mains or unplugged. In this instance, it’s best to check the power supply is switched on. If the Zip Tap does not restart, contact an approved contractor from the Wellbeing Group.

  • Filters reaching the end of their service life — this can happen in high demand commercial environments. Expired filters can restrict water flow or trigger system warnings. The solution is to replace the filter cartridge in line with the manufacturer’s recommended service interval.

Quick checks before calling an engineer

There are a few helpful quick checks that can resolve certain issues with your Zip Tap. Before contacting us for Zip Tap servicing, we recommend checking for the following:

  • Check your building’s water supply, sometimes the problem can be that simple
  • Ensure the water supply to the Zip Tap under counter system is switched on
  • See if an error message is displayed; it usually has further instructions
  • Make sure the power supply is turned on and that the unit is plugged in

FAQs

Why is my Zip Tap making noise but not dispensing water?

The reason your Zip Tap might be making noise is often due to the internal pump or tank attempting to draw water without a consistent supply. This can be caused by low mains pressure, a common issue in multi storey buildings, a blocked filter or an isolated water valve. Check that the filter is up to date and the water supply is fully open before arranging a service.

Why does my Zip Tap work for cold but not boiling water?

There could be a few reasons that your Zip Tap hot water is not working. For starters, the under sink command centre may have lost power. So you’re able to get running water, just not sparkling or boiling water. The safety lock might also be activated, which disables the boiling function. Check for red indicator lights and confirm the boiling function is switched on via the command centre.

Why does my Zip Tap stop dispensing halfway through?

Low water pressure is the most common reason a Zip Tap might stop dispensing halfway through. In high use office environments, partial dispensing can also indicate the system is refilling or recovering temperature. If it is a regular occurrence, then a pressure check or filter replacement may be needed.

Why is my Zip Tap dripping or leaking from the spout?

This can be due to normal thermal expansion after dispensing boiling water. Occasional dripping is nothing out of the ordinary, but if it is continuous, it can be a sign of a more serious issue such as a worn valve or internal seal.

When is it cheaper to replace a Zip Tap than it is to repair it?

Replacement can often be a more cost effective alternative when an old unit is out of warranty or requires constant servicing. If major components such as the tank or heating have failed, the cost of parts and labour can approach the price of a new system. In these cases, upgrading to a newer model is often a more cost-effective solution for your commercial Zip Tap.

How long should a Zip Tap last before faults occur?

A Zip Tap system that undergoes regular servicing should typically last 8 to 10 years in commercial environments. High usage and missed servicing can shorten the overall lifespan. Regular maintenance and filter changes are proactive measures that can extend their lifespan.
