Back to school – The staff room coffee machine

At Wellbeing Group, we are fully aware of how hard teachers have had it over the last few years, having to somehow adapt to online classrooms through the COVID pandemic and the return to the classroom has been an even harder challenge trying to transition children back into a normal structure of education, some of whom would not have experienced a classroom during what should have been they’re formative years of education.

With increased demands and even more guidelines to now consider, the job of school staff and is becoming more and more complex, leaving teachers finding it hard to find the time to take a much-deserved break in their hectic days. So, when they do, shouldn’t they get the refreshment quality they deserve.

Hot drinks are the lifeblood of any school’s teacher staffroom, coffee is the fuel and the nectar that keeps teachers functioning until the home time bell. With a nice cuppa, often the only little moment in a teacher’s day where it may allow for a little nugget of reflection or moment of indulgence, a spoon full of instant coffee and a kettle doesn’t seem to cut it anymore, nor does it fairly represent the value and gratitude that schools should be attributing to their staff.

Coffee Machine for schools, colleges & universities

Compact bean-to-cup table-top or floor-standing vending machines, with fresh milk options, are an ideal low maintenance (easy to clean), energy and money saving solutions, whilst delivering coffee shop quality beverages to the school staff room or canteen. Coffee machines are also much more practical and efficient for teachers, as there is no waiting around for a kettle to boil at the touch of a button, you can have anything from a latte to a cappuccino or mocha in seconds – more time to actually enjoy the drink!

So much more emphasis is now place on adhering to good hygiene practices in schools, since the pandemic and many staff, pupils and parents may still be concerned about using the same equipment or appliances due to infection risks. Our range of touchless machines means that staff don’t even have to touch the appliance to get there freshly brewed beverage.

Coffee for Schools
Office Coffee Machine

A coffee machine for school and teaching staff, is much more about providing better quality beverages, it’s a gesture, staff will feel more valued. Teachers spend their lives striving to improve the lives and wellbeing for children, but what about the wellbeing of our teachers? Do we think about their mental wellbeing enough? We appreciate it’s no cure, but this small work perk will go a long way in the eyes of your staff, something for them to look forward to in the 10 minutes during their day that they might get if they’re lucky. Teachers give so much of themselves, this is an affordable, sustainable and practical way to give back.

Workplace Wellbeing – The Office Coffee Culture

There’s no getting away from the café culture that has become firmly integrated into the modern workplace, the role of coffee has undoubtedly become the social glue in the office environment. With many of us spending our working week split between the office and home, the moments of pleasure in our day and the social interactions they can provide, seem even more important. It’s more than just a caffeine hit – it gives us an excuse to gather and can even help give structure to the day. Considering this, we wanted to understand the wider impacts and trends around office coffee culture now and in the future.

Form Over Function

Coffee was always seen as serving a purpose and a functional beverage to give us a perk and get us through the day, it was more of a habit, or a mechanical instinct. Now, people are tailoring and refining their tastes becoming more educated on taste profiles and serving styles. Coffee is now a lifestyle product, it is now a drink that is desired rather than simply consumed and new standards bring new expectations.

Social Nectar

The impact can be seen in new office builds, as companies are keen to create café style social break-out and refreshment spaces. To impress employees and visitors with higher quality refreshment facilities, where traditionally, more formal and sterile reception or canteen areas might have been. Installing a sea of change around the office space and alter the landscape of workplace culture in the future.

Employee Value Proposition

Bringing people back to the office who are comfortable at home could be a challenge. There’s also an increasing range of potential competition, with flexible co-working spaces becoming increasingly popular, offering a space that combines the work and hospitality increasingly. Workplaces will need to recognise that their employees and other stakeholders will want to work or hold meetings away from the office in the facilities are no longer fit for purpose culturally and from a quality perspective to provide a level of quality that meets new expectations.

Wellbeing & Community

A study found that 80% of employees had higher morale and were more motivated to do their best work when provided with simple perks like fresh, free gourmet coffee and tea, and felt that the provision of high quality coffee at work was an indication that their wellbeing mattered to their employer – Many forward thinking companies want to be seen to be offering ‘work perks’ and employee wellbeing for many companies now form a big part of their company ethos and is often promoted outwardly as much as projects and case studies. The dynamic between employers and employees has become much more of a two-way relationship and companies must be able to articulate what they can offer to employees, rather than it all being about what the individual is bringing to a company.

Staff Welfare
Office Coffee Culture

Sustainability

Buying behaviour has began to massively shift to a more considered pattern among consumers, especially around produce and food. Coffee drinkers are especially keen to learn about the origins and which coffee can have the biggest positive impact on Fairtrade communities in coffee growing regions locally –  As forward thinking companies want to become more aligned with sustainable values, they are much more likely to purchase coffee for the office that meets the image they practice in their customer facing proposition.

The Decaf Trend

Here at Wellbeing Group we are looking to dispel the myth that decaf coffee equals poorer flavour. With a trends towards health and wellbeing becoming more and more elevated, there should be a quality decaf option for those looking to consume coffee for the great taste without the caffeine boost. Our Fairtrade Organic Decaf 100% Arabica, from the Andean Mountain of Peru has been sourced to provide exactly this.

Brand Representation

A company’s coffee offering has the potential to help shape its external image as well as making employees feel valued. Being able to offer high-quality hospitality to all stakeholders and visitors has the ability to install and leave favourable lasting impressions and forms a positive narrative about how a company looks after it’s people.

Looking To The Future

The pandemic and lockdown has fast-tracked the inevitability and acceptance of flexible and remote working. Coffee can play a major role in encouraging people to spend more time together again in the office and central to the culture a workplace can cultivate, the moments of pleasure in our daily routines seem even more important, It’s more than just a caffeine hit, but the vehicle through which to gather and collaborate. Co-working spaces are mastering this and it feels like if the office is going to continue to appeal as we move into the remote working world it needs to evolve and embrace the culture that coffee can spearhead.

Our range of Bean To Cup Coffee Machines, are a great addition to any workplace or office environment. A great way to introduce a better quality of hot beverage facilities and install a better culture and wellbeing among your employees.

How to Choose the Right Office Water Dispenser

Keeping your team feeling refreshed should be a priority for any office environment and should never be taken for granted. Access to water enables your team to feel revitalised and ready for the challenges the workday brings. Otherwise, you risk inconveniencing your team by solely having access to taps that only provide ambient water. When it comes to accommodating your staff, organisations need to find the best water dispenser for their specific needs.

In this helpful guide, we’ll explore all the different types of water dispensers, the individual advantages and what you should consider before choosing the ideal refreshment solution.

Types of Water Dispensers

There are a plethora of options available for water dispensers. From traditional water coolers to three-in-one taps, the experts at the Wellbeing Group have experience and a vast array of choices. Let’s explore all the different options, so you can determine which is right for your work setting.

Bottled Water Coolers

The traditional bottled water cooler is a staple in offices across the UK. This is because of its standard design, accessible functionality and versatility to provide ambient, chilled and even boiling water. As the name suggests, it uses a large water bottle to supply reliable hydration throughout the day. Brands such as Georgia Classic, Alaska Classic and Nebraska Classic are each equipped with their own unique features to cater to different preferences. You can choose from floor-standing and countertop models, beneficial for those who require higher capacity or have limited floor space.

Chilled Water Taps

Advanced chilled water taps conveniently supply chilled, ambient and even sparkling water. They save space as they only require an under-counter unit to provide refreshing beverages. Trusted brands such as Alaska II, Alaska Pro and Vermont offer a range of options in style, functionality and features, catering to everything from small offices to large-scale workplaces. Chilled water taps blend seamlessly with your work setting, beneficial for those who value aesthetics and performance.

It’s also cost-effective and provides instant access to boiling water. Trusted brands such as Arizona, Marco Ecoboiler, Zip Econ and Zip Hydroboil offer reliable, high-performance systems with features including energy-saving modes, precise temperature control and durable build quality.

Mains Fed Water Dispensers

mains-fed water dispenser can be seamlessly installed into your existing water supply, providing your office with a wide range of boiling, chilled, ambient, and sparkling water. These dispensers feature modern designs, so their sleek appearance effortlessly fits in any office environment. Brands such as the Nebraska Classic, Nebraska Pro and the Georgia Classic are versatile, excellent for filling sports bottles to pint glasses.

Georgia Classic

The versatile Georgia Classic is available as a floor-standing or desktop unit, providing seamless water dispensing for any work setting. Depending on your choice, you can enjoy chilled and hot beverages, making it ideal for keeping teams refreshed and productive throughout the day.

Which Water Dispenser is Suitable for Your Office?

While choosing the best water dispenser for your office can feel challenging, the process can be simplified by focusing on a few key factors. Start by considering the needs of your team, the size of your workspace and the number of staff.

If you have a small or medium office, a standard mains fed dispenser might be enough to meet daily hydration needs without taking up too much space or requiring high capacity output.

A larger facility with more varied tastes and preferences may benefit from a higher-capacity water dispenser that offers a wider range of options, such as hot, chilled and sparkling water. Many models are also energy-efficient and easy to clean, which is important for busy offices that value sustainability and hygiene. Once you’ve considered all these factors, you can start to narrow down your selection and find a water dispenser that comfortably caters to your entire team

Energy Use & Running Costs Explained

The amount of electricity a water dispenser uses is determined by the make, model and frequency of use. Models that provide both hot and cold water typically use more electricity than cold-only options, due to the need to maintain higher temperatures. However, The Wellbeing Group supplies water taps and dispensers that are equipped with energy-saving technology to help you manage your bills.

Compared to kettles, dispensers can be more efficient in busy environments, as they heat water on demand or maintain temperature without repeated boiling. Choosing the right system depends on usage levels and the balance between convenience and energy consumption.

Renting vs Buying

Renting and buying a water dispenser each offer distinct advantages. The right choice will often come down to your budget and long-term plans. Leasing is typically more cost-effective in the short term, with options for servicing and manageable weekly payments available.

Purchasing outright will require a higher upfront spend but can lead to greater savings over time as there are no ongoing rental fees. Ultimately, the decision will be influenced by your budget and priorities.

Benefits of Water Dispensers in the Workplace

Water dispensers provide the workplace with a variety of refreshments. They help keep employees feeling alert, refreshed and productive. Alongside helping employees feel revitalised, readily available water dispensers remove the need to bring water from home or spend money on bottled water.

Choose Wellbeing Group for Your Office Water Dispensers

The Wellbeing Group provides a complete end-to-end service, from installation to water dispensing servicing, to help extend the lifespan of your water dispenser. We also offer flexible pricing options that make it easy to choose between short-term affordability and long-term value, with both rental and purchase plans available.

Keep Office Staff Cool During Summer

Keep Office Staff Cool During Summer

Top tips to keep office staff cool during Summer

Look after your employee’s wellbeing during the summer months, maintaining the health and productivity of office staff.

Office Fan

Why is it important to keep your office and staff cool during summer?

Summer months can see a drop in work productivity and an increase in “sickies” as staff struggle to cope in hot and stuffy offices. Keeping your staff cool and comfortable during the summer is essential both for the health and happiness of your staffas well as for preventing a drop in work productivity in the hot afternoons.

Below we’ve outlined the top ways you can keep your staff happy, cool and productive during summer.

Keep air-con on during summer

Air-con will be one of the fastest ways of cooling your staff down during the hot weather. Where possible keep the air-con on and maintain a comfortable working temperature for your staff throughout the summer.

Encourage staff to dress appropriately

Air-con will be one of the fastest ways of cooling your staff down during the hot weather. Where possible keep the air-con on and maintain a comfortable working temperature for your staff throughout the summer.

Provide staff with personal fans

If your office does not have air-con and getting air-con installed isn’t an option, make sure there is an adequate supply of personal fans for your staff to use. Staff can keep cool and it will encourage them to keep their desks clear of excess fly-away paper!

Keep windows shut during the hottest part of the day

You might think opening the windows helps cool the office, but if the temperature outside is warmer than the temperature inside the building then you’ll only lose the cool air that has built up in the office. Only open the windows in the early morning or evening when the temperature outside is cooler than inside the building. Always keep the windows shut when you have the air-con running.

Air Con

Avoid excessive electronic devices

Electronic devices such as phones and computers are inevitable in the workplace, but every device gives off heat that will contribute to the warming of your office. Where there are non crucial devices that can be switched off for the day, such as display screens or vacant computers, be sure to switch them off. As well as keeping the office cool you’ll be saving electricity.

Provided a shaded outdoor are for breaks

If your office includes an outdoor area for lunch breaks, make sure it has adequate shade. This will allow your employees to take a break outside while keeping cool. Your staff will come back from their lunch feeling fresh and refuelled.

Use blinds or sunscreens

If your office has large windows that act as a suntrap consider installing blinds or sunscreens that prevent too much sunlight from entering and heating the office. Sunscreens & blinds can also prevent too much sun glare on work screens, reducing eye strain for your staff.

Provide access to chilled water

Make sure that your staff not only have access to plenty of drinking water but that they have the option of chilled or ice cold water so they can quickly cool themselves down and maintain a comfortable temperature.

Office Water Dispensers

Keep strenuous activity to a minimum

If you’re considering an office reshuffle and need to move heavy furniture or anything else that would involve strenuous activity, try and delay this to a day when the weather is not so hot. If it can’t be delayed then get as many staff as possible involved to help share the responsibility and reduce the amount of activity per staff member.

Move staff to cooler areas of the office

If certain areas of the office catch the sun more than others then take this into consideration when planning your office layout. Move staff working spaces to these shaded, cooler parts of the office and keep sunnier parts of the office as reception or communal spaces.

Give staff plenty of space

Make sure staff are not over-crowded and have plenty of breathing space between them. Having personal space is better for productivity and overall wellbeing.

Switch off at the end of the day

At night the temperatures will drop giving your offices a chance to cool. As we mentioned earlier electronic devices give off heat, so at the end of the day make sure all the computers are switched off rather than left on ‘sleep’ or ‘standby’. Also ensure that all the lighting is off so there isn’t anything generating heat. This allows your office to cool before the next day.

Treat your team to ice cream

This will really boost morale more than it will actually cool your staff down, but treating your staff to a refreshing treat during the hot summer weather will make them feel revitalised and give them a positive push through the hot and draining weather.

Encourage staff to stay hydrated

Make sure there is an adequate supply of water coolers so staff have access to fresh cold water as often as they need it. When it gets hot, send out a reminder to staff highlighting the benefits of staying hydrated to encourage them to drink more water.

Stay hydrated at work
