Keeping your Zip Hydroboil or HydroTap in good condition is the best way to get the best return on your investment.   There’s an element that you can do yourself, such as keeping your Zip tap and the unit under the counter clean, and then the rest really needs to be left to a Zip tap service engineer who will change the filter when required and carry out a service of the unit.  A regular service (usually every 6 – 12 months) is a good idea as the Zip engineer can check wear and tear and descale the hot tank if necessary.  Helpful tip – when wiping down your Zip tap, use a cloth with warm water and a little mild soap, don’t use any strong chemicals as they could start corroding the metal and paintwork.

What is a drainage font?

This is a stainless steel drip tray that is inset into a worktop to allow the boiling and chilled tap to be a stand alone tap away from a sink. It has its own connection to the waste and is often chosen for safety reasons. With each font is a riser of 135mm, which lifts the tap high enough to dispense into a tall glass or jug. What needs to be in place to have a Zip Tap installed?

It’s important to have access to water, waste and electric within one metre of the system, as well as adequate under-counter space to house the command centre with required ventilation. How energy efficient is a Zip Tap compared to a kettle?

Zip Taps are 95% efficient at turning electricity into boiling water, making it much cheaper to run than boiling a kettle. Zip taps also create no water waste and the water being dispensed in filtered every time for a cleaner taste and more hygienic water.

How often do Zip Tap Filters need changing?

Your Zip Tap will require a new filter every 12 months, (or after 30,000 litres) the change filter light will flash white indicating that a filter change is due and one of our engineers will come out to replace this for you. You can either purchase these diretly from us to replace yourself, alternatively you can save money and hassle with our service plans and one of our engineers will come out to replace this for you.

What to do when the Zip Tap filter light comes on?

Your Zip HydroTap will notify you when the filter replacement is due. The change filter light will flash white once per minute until the filter has been replaced, and the filter percentage will show 0% on the Home screen. To order a replacement filter contact our sales team on 01905 337187 or discuss a maintenance plan where all of this is included and taken care of for you.

Why do I need a scale filter?

Most of the UK suffers from hard water, and in some areas this can even vary according to which reservoir the water is coming from. Any brand of boiling and chilled unit will very quickly scale up if a limescale filter is not fitted, and a failure attributable to scale is not normally covered by warranty.

Do I need to buy special filters for my Zip Tap system?

How should I clean a Zip Tap?

Due to the premium finishes on Zip Taps, we recommended only using water with a microfibre cloth. Chemicals in cleaning products and polishes may damage the finish and stain the taps.

My Zip Tap is not dispensing water, what shall I do?

Firstly, enquire whether the water supply to your building has been interrupted at all, often it could be down to localised water pressure. Next, try checking that the water supply to the Zip under counter unit is turned on. Sometimes this could be isolated by a member of staff by mistake and would prevent the cold water supply reaching the tap. Also, check that the power is turned on, and see if there are any error messages shown on the display screen. If you do have an error message showing on your Zip tap, it may be best to speak to one of our service team on 01905 337187

What does the red flashing boiling light on a Zip Tap mean?

Flashing red light means boiling water hasn’t reached 99°C yet. Wait for the light to stop flashing before dispensing water, this can typically occur after switch on or after high volume usage.

If you are experiencing water leaking from the tap head or under counter unit, immediately switch the machine off at the mains and isolate the water supply to the machine. Contact our service team who will advise and arrange an engineer to visit your office to resolve.

How hot is a Billi Tap?

The question is often asked, what temperature is the boiling water dispensed out of a Billi hot tap?

The simple answer provided by our Billi service technicians is:

The minimum temperature a Billi tap can be set at is 80°Cand maximum temperature is 98.9°C, however by default the hot tap set at 98.5°C.

Some may query the fact that this isn’t ‘boiling’ water, however it is much safer as it doesn’t spit when dispensed and is still hot enough for making hot drinks.

Billi Tap systems can dispense filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water all from one tap, alongside hot and cold water mixer taps for a complete water dispense solution.

We have systems that can deliver one water type (such as filtered boiling or filtered chilled) through to all five water types from a single tap and under-counter unit.

How it works

In the early 90’s, the Billi Research and Development Team took waste heat recovery to a new level. Using heat-exchange technology and applying it to a conventional technology water boiler, the Billi team came up with a new and significant, far reaching idea. In consequence, the product they designed became the world’s first under-counter boiling and chilled drinking water system. This instantly provided perfect temperature drinking water, cup after cup after cup.

Furthermore, they harnessed thermodynamic heat-exchange technology to recover waste heat energy. By harvesting the waste heat generated by the chilled water cooling cycle, they reused it to pre heat the water entering the hot water tank. This design provided a massive CO2 energy saving compared to conventional boiling and chilled units. Billi still leads the market for commercial boiling taps today by using this technology.

Do you know the optimum temperatures for tea and coffee?

 

Let’s start with tea, black tea needs water to be as close to 100°C As possible to brew properly, therefore the Billi Quadra and Sahara taps are the ideal solution without having to boil the kettle.  Other teas, such as herbal and fruit teas, are more delicate and require cooler temperatures otherwise they will taste too bitter. As the Billi is generally too hot for these types of tea, we recommend adding a splash of cold water onto the tea bag first in order to bring the overall temperature down.  Green tea should be steeped in water between 75-85 Degrees Celsius and the recommended time for steeping green tea is 2-3 minutes, much shorter than black tea..

Getting the right temperature for coffee is just as tricky as tea!  There are many opinions on the ultimate brewing temperature for coffee but as a guide we recommend that water should not be above 90°C for instant coffee or 60°C for filter coffee.  In order to cool the water slightly for your instant coffee, try adding the milk to the coffee first as this will bring the overall temperature down to where it should be.  If you brew coffee with boiling water it can scald the coffee which can affect the taste and leave you with a bitter after taste.

One challenge which most boiling and chilled taps still face, are under-counter temperatures. The excessive heat build-up under-counter requires ventilation, substantial airspace and in most cases, unsightly ventilation grilles in the cupboard doors themselves.

How Billi Taps Have Overcome This

Using the same waste heat recovery technology, all Billi Quadra systems are cooled by water and DO NOT require under-counter ventilation.

 No grilles, no ducts, no excessively hot cupboards, and especially relevant, no damage to joinery or additional draw on the office air conditioning.

Just imagine how fast you could boil your water if it was already hot. It’s a bit like filling a kettle from your hot tap, then boiling that. But in the case of Billi Taps, our technology does just that, except (unlike a kettle), we provide water that is filtered to give a pure odourless, sediment-free taste. This enables Billi to produce a system that uses far less electricity and apart from the very largest commercial unit, the Quadra will run from a 13 amp power supply.

There are two options – You can pay for a call-out each time for us service your Billi Tap and any additional labour or parts required to repair the system. How Much Does a Billi Tap Cost?

There are two other aspects to consider when you are looking at buying a boiling hot tap for your office other than the Billi Tap Prices which are:

  • ongoing maintenance charges

  • the daily running cost.

Let’s start with the initial outlay.  Billi tap prices range largely between £1899 and £5000.  Various factors can influence the price such as the capacity of the Billi tap, the dispense options or a custom colour finish.

Many clients find it useful to lease the Billi tap to help spread the cost over a period of time, this can especially be a help when larger investments have already been made into an office refurbishment.  Installation costs for a Billi tap are usually just a one off providing the engineer can successfully install the equipment in one day, we can give you a price for your Billi tap installation once we are aware of the worktop material and cupboard layouts.

There isn’t a way to skip the ongoing maintenance costs of a Billi tap, if a tap isn’t maintained and Billi filters replaced, it will only be a matter of time before it breaks down resulting in expensive Billi repair costs.  It is much better to have a planned maintenance agreement in place as it gives you peace of mind that the equipment is being looked after, it’s serviced on time and much easier for you to budget for.    At Wellbeing Group we offer 3 levels of cost effective service plans for Billi taps; silver, gold and platinum.  Each plan has a different level of cover and priced accordingly.  Our Billi service engineers are equipped for quick call out response times to fix your Billi tap.

The biggest cost saver of a Billi tap compared to a kettle is the daily running cost.  Kettles use a tremendous amount of electricity by heating up cold water throughout the day, the cost of boiling a kettle of approx. 1.5litres is around 2.5p!  The Billi tap uses heat exchange technology where any head generated from the water chiller is harvested and used to help heat the hot water which saves a lot of energy.  The running cost of a Billi is around 9p per day (depending on the size of your workforce).

Any other combined hot & cold drinking water tap uses a fan to take the heat away from the chiller, this creates warm cupboards and is using extra electricity all the time the chiller is in use.  Thanks to the innovation of the Billi tap that this once wasted heat is now useable for a good cause.

Is it Billie or Billy Tap? Where does the name ‘Billi’ Tap come from?

Firstly, let’s get the spelling of the Billi tap right as some people call it a Billy tap or a Billie tap, we can see why as most of us would have a friend or know someone called Billy.

Billi was founded in Australia and the name derived from the Australian billycan which is commonly known as a billy.  The billy can is a cooking pot, basically a metal bucket, which is used for boiling water or cooking over a campfire.  It is a very simple but effective way to heat water with hardly any equipment required.

Moving on to the 21st Century, we have made life easier for you and the Billi tap provides boiling water without the bother of making a campfire in your office!  The Billi undercounter tap is also incredibly energy efficient by using heat exchange technology.

Billi Tap systems can dispense filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water all from one tap, alongside hot and cold water mixer taps for a complete water dispense solution.

We have systems that can deliver one water type (such as filtered boiling or filtered chilled) through to all five water types from a single tap and under-counter unit.

The versatility of a Billi Tap

Billi taps are practical and versatile, offering instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water, removing the need to stand around waiting for the office kettle to boil. They produce high volumes of water during periods of high demand, reducing waiting times and improve efficiency amongst staff in the office. This also means you can save money on purchasing other appliances, since a Billi Tap does the job of a water cooler and a kettle, which also frees up more space and creating a less cluttered office environment.

Billi Taps provide water that is filtered to give a pure odourless, sediment-free taste. They work by harnessing thermodynamic heat-exchange technology to recover waste heat energy ready to be reused to preheat the water entering the hot water tank. They come equipped with a Time Clock, Sleep Mode and Eco Mode so you can make huge savings on your energy bills! This technology allows for peak periods of high demand in the office environment.

The cost of your lease plan will depend on the Billi Tap system you opt for. When the lease plan ends you can choose to either terminate the lease plan and we will arrange to uninstall the tap and take it away, or you can decide to extend your lease agreement and carry out the same monthly payments or enquire about buying the tap outright from us at a fixed fee.
