If your workplace still uses an older Borg & Overström water dispenser, you may be wondering whether it can still be serviced, whether replacement parts are available or whether it is time to upgrade.
Several older Borg & Overström B-Series dispensers, including versions of the B2, B4 and B5, have now been discontinued. However, discontinued does not automatically mean unusable. Depending on the model, condition and availability of parts, it may still be possible to service and maintain your existing dispenser.
This guide explains which Borg & Overström models have been discontinued, what support remains available and how to decide whether repairing or replacing your current dispenser is the better option.
Which Borg & Overström Water Dispensers Have Been Discontinued?
Borg & Overström has gradually replaced several older B-Series models as its commercial water dispenser range has developed.
According to Borg & Overström’s current spare parts policy:
- B2.1 models were discontinued in June 2016.
- Different versions of the B2.2 were discontinued between December 2019 and December 2020.
- The B4.2 range was discontinued on 15 May 2023.
- The B5 range was discontinued on 31 December 2022.
Importantly, the B6 is not currently listed as a discontinued model.
If your workplace has one of these systems, the first step is to confirm the exact model and serial number. This will help establish what servicing and replacement parts are still available.
Wellbeing Group supplies, installs and services a wide range of Borg & Overström water dispensers and can help identify the most appropriate next step for an older unit.
Can a Discontinued Borg & Overström Dispenser Still Be Serviced?
Yes, in many cases.
A model being discontinued does not mean servicing needs to stop immediately. Routine maintenance, sanitisation, filter replacement and certain repairs may remain possible long after a dispenser is removed from the current product range.
The deciding factors are usually:
- The exact model and age of the dispenser
- Its overall condition
- The fault or component involved
- Whether compatible replacement parts remain available
- The cost of repair compared with replacement
Regular servicing can also help identify developing faults before they become more serious.
Wellbeing Group provides professional water dispenser servicing for workplace systems, including dispensers that were not originally supplied by us.
Are Spare Parts Still Available for Discontinued Borg & Overström Models?
Parts availability varies considerably between models.
Borg & Overström’s policy is to support current equipment with spare parts and to retain parts for discontinued equipment for a period after production ends. Older parts may then become subject to supplier availability.
This means two discontinued models can have very different repair prospects.
Borg & Overström B2
The B2 has existed in several versions.
B2.1 systems were discontinued in 2016, while the later B2.2 range was discontinued between 2019 and 2020 depending on the configuration.
Borg & Overström now lists these models as having no standard or obsolete spare-part availability through its current spare-parts policy.
That does not necessarily mean every B2 fault is impossible to resolve, but businesses running these machines should be prepared for increasingly limited repair options.
If your B2 develops a significant fault, it may therefore be worth comparing the cost and availability of repair against a newer commercial water dispenser.
What About the Borg & Overström B4?
The B4 is slightly more complicated because different generations have existed.
The later B4.2 range was discontinued on 15 May 2023.
Borg & Overström’s current policy states that standard B4.2 spare parts were stocked until 15 May 2026, with obsolete parts potentially available to order until 15 May 2027.
Some individual B4 components also continue to appear within Borg & Overström’s current parts catalogue.
For workplaces still running a B4.2, this means repair may remain a realistic option, but availability should be checked for the specific component required before committing to the work.
What About the Borg & Overström B5?
The Borg & Overström B5 range was discontinued on 31 December 2022.
Borg & Overström’s current spare-parts policy now lists standard and obsolete parts for the B5 range as no longer available through that programme.
If your B5 is still operating reliably, there is no reason to replace it simply because the model has been discontinued. Routine maintenance and filter changes may still help you get more useful service from the machine.
However, if a major component fails, limited parts availability could make a replacement dispenser the more practical long-term option.
Is the Borg & Overström B6 Discontinued?
No. The Borg & Overström B6 has not currently been discontinued.
This is important because some older information online has grouped the B6 together with discontinued B-Series models.
Borg & Overström continues to provide a current B6 installation and operation manual and, in September 2026, issued a new firmware upgrade that specifically applies to all B6 serial numbers.
The manufacturer’s guidance recommends installing the update during the next six-month service cycle, confirming that the B6 remains a supported product.
If you currently have a B6, there is therefore no reason to consider replacing it simply because you believe the model has been discontinued.
Regular servicing and maintenance should continue as normal.
Can You Still Get Filters for Older Borg & Overström Dispensers?
A dispenser being discontinued does not necessarily mean routine consumables such as water filters immediately become unavailable.
Filters are replaced regularly as part of normal dispenser maintenance and may be shared across different equipment rather than being unique to a particular discontinued model.
The correct filter will depend on your dispenser, installation and local water conditions.
Routine filter replacement can help maintain:
- Water taste and quality
- Normal water flow
- Reliable dispenser performance
- Scale management where appropriate
Filter changes can also be incorporated into regular water dispenser servicing and maintenance so they do not need to be managed separately by your facilities team.
Should You Repair or Replace a Discontinued Water Dispenser?
There is no need to replace a working dispenser purely because the manufacturer has stopped selling the model.
Instead, consider the overall condition and long-term practicality of the machine.
How old is the dispenser?
An older machine that remains reliable and inexpensive to maintain may still have plenty of useful life left.
However, repeated repairs on an ageing system can eventually make replacement more economical.
Are replacement parts available?
Parts availability is one of the biggest considerations with discontinued equipment.
A relatively simple fault may be easy to resolve if the component is still available. The same fault becomes much more difficult if the required part is obsolete.
How often is the dispenser breaking down?
An occasional repair does not necessarily justify replacing the system.
If faults are becoming increasingly common, however, the combined cost of engineer visits, replacement parts and workplace disruption should be considered.
Have your workplace requirements changed?
Your business may also have changed significantly since the dispenser was originally installed.
For example, you may now have:
- More employees
- Higher peak demand
- Additional office floors or kitchen areas
- Greater demand for sparkling water
- Increased bottle-filling requirements
- Different workplace design requirements
In these circumstances, upgrading may provide benefits beyond simply replacing an ageing machine.
What Can Replace an Older Borg & Overström B-Series Dispenser?
There is not necessarily a direct like-for-like replacement for every discontinued B-Series model.
A better approach is to reassess what your workplace actually needs today.
Consider:
- How many people will use the dispenser
- Peak periods of demand
- Chilled, ambient, hot or sparkling water requirements
- Countertop or floorstanding configuration
- Available space
- Bottle and glass filling requirements
- Filtration requirements
- CO2 requirements for sparkling systems
- Ongoing servicing and maintenance
Newer Borg & Overström equipment includes both commercial dispensers and tap systems, so upgrading can also be an opportunity to choose a solution better suited to your current workplace.
