Troubleshooting FAQs
Why is my Zip Tap not heating water?
If your Zip Tap isn’t heating, check that the power supply is on and look for any messages on the command centre. If the system has recently been restarted, allow around 10 to 20 minutes for the boiling water to reach operating temperature. If it remains cold after this time, or a fault message appears, contact an authorised Zip Tap engineer.
Why is my Zip Tap dispensing water slowly?
If your Zip Tap is dispensing water more slowly than normal, first check that your building’s water supply hasn’t been interrupted and ensure the isolation valve supplying the under-counter unit is fully open. Reduced water flow can also indicate that the filter has become blocked over time. A clogged filter can restrict water flow and affect performance, particularly on chilled water systems. If the problem continues after completing these checks, inspect the display for any warning messages before contacting an authorised Zip Tap engineer.
Why has my Zip Tap lost water pressure?
A sudden loss of water pressure is often caused by an interruption to the mains water supply or the isolation valve beneath the unit being closed accidentally. It’s also worth checking whether your Zip Tap filter is due for replacement, as a blocked filter can significantly reduce water flow. If both the water and power supplies are operating correctly and the issue persists, further investigation by a qualified engineer may be required.
Why is my chilled water not cold enough?
If your chilled water isn’t reaching its normal temperature, the unit may simply still be cooling after being switched back on or recovering from heavy usage. After restarting the system, chilled water can take approximately 45 minutes to return to its operating temperature. If the blue light is flashing, this indicates the cooling system is still working and should return to normal once the light becomes solid.
Why is my Zip Tap dispensing water at the wrong temperature?
After completing a reset or switching your Zip Tap back on, it requires time to return to its normal operating temperatures. Boiling water systems generally take between 10 and 20 minutes to heat fully, while chilled water systems can take up to 45 minutes. If your tap still isn’t dispensing water at the correct temperature after this recovery period, check for any warning messages before arranging a service visit.
Why has my Zip Tap stopped dispensing sparkling water?
Start by checking the CO₂ cylinder and the regulator pressure gauge. If the cylinder is empty, it will need replacing before the tap can dispense sparkling water normally. If there is sufficient CO₂ and the problem continues, the system may require further investigation by an authorised engineer.
Why is my sparkling water flat?
Flat or weakly carbonated water is often a sign that the CO₂ supply is running low. Check the regulator pressure gauge and, if the pressure cannot be returned to the correct range, replace the CO₂ cylinder. If a new cylinder doesn’t resolve the problem, arrange a service visit.
Why is my Zip Tap making unusual noises?
Some noise from the under-counter unit is normal while the system heats, chills or dispenses water. If the sound is new, unusually loud or continues when the tap isn’t being used, check the display for a fault message and make sure the water supply is fully open. An authorised engineer should investigate persistent or unusual noises.
Why is my Zip Tap beeping?
A beeping Zip Tap may be drawing your attention to a notification or fault on the command centre. Check the display for any messages and follow the instructions shown for your model. If the beeping continues or is accompanied by a fault code, make a note of the message and contact an authorised engineer.
Why is my Zip Tap leaking or dripping?
If you notice water leaking from the tap itself or from the under-counter unit, switch the power off at the mains immediately and isolate the water supply. Do not continue using the system until the cause has been identified. Taking photographs of both the tap and the under-counter unit can help an engineer diagnose the problem before attending site, allowing them to arrive with the correct replacement parts where possible.
Why is water coming from the overflow?
Water from the overflow can indicate that the system isn’t draining or operating as expected. If there is a continuous or significant flow of water, switch the unit off and check for any visible leaks around the tap and under-counter unit. Avoid dismantling the system yourself and arrange an engineer visit if the issue continues.
Why is my Zip Tap continuously running?
First check whether a timed dispense has been activated, as some Zip HydroTap models can be set to dispense water for a preset period. If the tap continues running beyond its normal dispense time or won’t stop when you use the controls, switch the unit off and arrange an engineer visit.
Why does my Zip Tap stop dispensing halfway through?
If your Zip Tap stops partway through dispensing, check whether the system is set to a timed or measured dispense. If this isn’t the cause, check the water supply, isolation valve and filter, as restricted flow can affect performance. If the issue keeps happening, contact an authorised engineer.
Why won't my Zip Tap unlock boiling water?
Your Zip HydroTap may have its boiling water safety lock enabled. On compatible models, boiling water is accessed by pressing the red lever and safety button together. If the controls are being used correctly but boiling water remains unavailable, check the command centre for a warning or fault message.
Why is my Zip Tap not responding when I press the controls?
Check that the command centre has power and isn’t in an energy-saving or standby mode. If the system has power but the tap controls remain unresponsive, try the recommended reset procedure. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, contact an authorised engineer rather than attempting to dismantle the tap.
Why does my Zip Tap have no lights or display?
Start by checking that the electrical supply to the unit is switched on. If the display appears blank, press the back button on the control panel to wake the screen from standby mode. If the display remains blank after checking the power supply, the unit may require further investigation by a qualified Zip Tap engineer.
Why is my Zip Tap displaying a fault code?
If your Zip Tap displays an error or fault code, make a note of the message before carrying out any further troubleshooting. Check that both the water and power supplies are connected correctly before attempting a restart. If the fault remains after completing the recommended reset procedure, contact an authorised engineer and provide the recorded error code.
Why does my Zip Tap keep turning itself off?
If your Zip Tap has been switched off or unused for an extended period, it may enter standby or require a full restart. Turn the unit off at the mains for five to ten minutes before switching it back on and allowing sufficient time for both the boiling and chilled systems to recover. If the tap continues switching itself off unexpectedly, professional servicing may be required.
Why is my Zip Tap dispensing cloudy or white water?
Cloudy or white water can sometimes be caused by tiny air bubbles in the water rather than a problem with the tap itself. Fill a clear glass and leave it to stand briefly. If the water clears, trapped air is likely to be the cause. If the appearance doesn’t clear or you notice an unusual taste or smell, stop using the system and arrange further investigation.
Why does my Zip Tap taste or smell unusual?
If your Zip Tap has been unused for several weeks, stale water can affect both the taste and smell of the water. After restarting the system, flush the chilled water for two to three minutes and dispense boiling water in several short bursts before using the tap as normal. If the taste persists, check whether the filter is due for replacement.
Why is my Zip Tap overheating?
Make sure the under-counter command centre has sufficient space and ventilation, as inadequate airflow can affect its ability to operate correctly. If the unit feels unusually hot, repeatedly shuts down or displays a temperature-related fault, stop using it and contact an authorised engineer.
My Zip Tap worked yesterday but not today. What should I check first?
Start by checking whether your building’s water supply has been interrupted and confirm that the isolation valve beneath the sink remains open. Next, check that the electrical supply is switched on and inspect the display for any warning lights or fault messages. If the tap has recently been switched off or left unused, complete the recommended reset procedure before allowing the unit sufficient time to return to its operating temperature.
What should I do after my Zip Tap has been switched off for several weeks?
Before switching the unit back on, carry out a visual inspection of both the tap and the under-counter unit to ensure there are no visible leaks or damage. Restore the power supply, allow the boiling and chilled systems to return to temperature, then flush each water type thoroughly to remove any stagnant water. Finally, check whether the filter is due for replacement before returning the tap to normal use.
Why does my Zip Tap keep asking for a filter change after I've replaced the filter?
Replacing the filter doesn’t always clear the reminder automatically. Depending on your Zip HydroTap model, the filter counter or timer may also need to be reset through the command centre after the new filter has been fitted and flushed. Follow the instructions for your specific model and, if the warning remains, contact an authorised engineer.
Why is my Zip Tap tripping the power?
If your Zip Tap repeatedly trips the electrical supply, stop using the system and don’t continue resetting the power. An electrical fault needs professional investigation, so switch the unit off and contact an authorised Zip Tap engineer.
Can I fix my Zip Tap myself?
There are several basic checks you can safely carry out yourself before arranging a repair. These include checking the water supply, confirming the electrical supply is switched on, inspecting the display for warning messages and completing the recommended reset procedure. If your Zip Tap is leaking, displaying persistent fault codes or experiencing electrical issues, stop troubleshooting and contact an authorised Zip Tap engineer.
When should I stop troubleshooting and call an engineer?
You should contact a qualified engineer if your Zip Tap continues displaying fault messages after completing the reset procedure, develops a leak, has no power despite the electrical supply being active, or still isn’t operating correctly after carrying out the recommended troubleshooting steps. If you suspect an electrical fault or water leak, isolate both the power and water supplies immediately before arranging a repair.
